As I was reading this book, I could hardly put it down. It really kept my attention and engaged my emotions. Despite that, there are many problems with the book from my point of view:
-So, so many secondary characters. And they are not developed at all. The heroine has a huge extended family, but we hardly know anything about any of them besides the heroine's cousin. And that cousin has nary a redeeming quality, a very one-dimensional character.
-The heroine has no friends. None. Not even among her family. She confides in no one, has no one to support her. She doesn't want to be back at her childhood home and associates the place with bad experiences. Which makes the ending even more of a head-scratcher...
-Very unsatisfactory ending. The heroine seemed unwilling to try to commit to the relationship in any meaningful way and unwilling to adapt to the hero's career and life. (She refuses to leave her childhood home and move to where the hero's career is centered. Won't even give it a trial.) Don't write an epilogue if you don't provide readers with a happily ever after. Honestly if I knew these folks in real life I would be anticipating a split up.

Suddenly in Love A Lake Haven Novel Julia London 9781503953284 Books Reviews

I really loved this book. I loved the heroine, I really liked the hero (other than the typical lapses of male stupidity). I enjoyed the writing style, like the secondary characters. I was drawn into the story, and was able to immerse myself in the scenes. I don't think there was anything in this book I did not like. Several very quirky characters, which make a book more enjoyable for me.

HEA, no cheating.

I will be reading this book again and looking forward to it.
Two artistic people trying to understand what's truly important and while on their individual journey of discovery they meet, talk, connect and fall in love...but, the world and all it's challenges invade their bubble.
Now, how do they move forward?
Mia and Brennen are two well written characters with depth and heart. This is a lovely standalone story with heart and HEA. I highly recommend.
I loved this book! I stayed up all night reading it and couldn't wait for the ending (happily ever after, of course..the only way to go in my opinion) As soon as I put my clothes on I went to and ordered the other 2 books in this series.Cannot wait to read them! The characters are very "real" people with tons of imperfections that please me as I am so imperfect myself. I am putting this author on my must read authors.
For an author that's written so many books, I am disappointed in the dialog. I'm only about a third of the way through and I am ready to abandon the book. The writing doesn't feel genuine. I don't believe these people would ever really exist.
I would recommend this book. It starts out with a rather chaotic life in transition but settles down to a good rhythm and was difficult to put down. Mia is an artist with a creative mind and loves painting but her greatest talent may be in other creative interests. She is a very likable and sympathetic character. Her creative mind makes it difficult to fit in at times but she is comfortable with who she is. She meets a rude, obnoxious man who appears a little frightening at first but as her dislike turns to irritation, to curiosity, to...well you can imagine. I enjoyed the love story but the ups and downs of the creative mind was also interesting. The character illustrates that what we love and what we are good at are often not the same thing and our ability to recognize it may only come from others.
I usually love Julia London's writing but though isn't bad in this book, it lacks the usual snappy dialogue and delicious descriptions and strong emotional component of her previous work, both in contemporaries and historicals. That said, I enjoyed this story and read it happily to the end and didn't notice some of the weaknesses that occurred to me once I'd finished it. My main problem was the one dimensional aspect of the main characters neither the H/h had any real depth. I kept thinking we were going to get it but everything stayed very superficial so by the end of the story I wasn't secure in my knowledge in who they were nor was I convinced that they would have their HEA. The other thing that was lacking was the trademark Julia London snappy dialogue the conversations were pretty pedestrian and were easily forgotten. Finally there was a strange inconsistency in the story which an editor really should have caught -- or the author should have explained why does she remain in the town which holds such bad memories for her?
That said, the problems listed above didn't impede my reading while I was actually reading it and I will continue reading this series.
I haven't read a romance in a while, as they have become quite formulaic. So when this book was recommended by , I decided to give it a chance. I can describe this book in one word - meh. It was boring, and I couldn't really get into any of the characters. Mia is too mousey, and really needs to grow a pair. Her cousin Skylar has no redeeming qualities, and Everett is just one of those guys that is totally unbelievable. Character development was lacking in this story. Honestly, the only reason I finished it was because I wanted to get my 99 cents worth.
